Th place i ork had a serious problem electrically yesterday afternoon afteri left. They still had an issue when i went in this morning, but afdter much finageling, i was allowed to go up to check on things that might be a problem.
I had my bag with my reading glasses and other things of lesser importance in it.
I did my things, but carried my bag with me into the lab proper and set it down... some where.
Yes, i can not find it,
not my reading glasses.
How am i writing this?
using my old fresnel insert glasses,
which fog everything up because that is what fresnel lenses do.
I can not read the screen i am writing on, but i can see the key board.
The most interesting thing is the distance i can see with these, meaning that the "Prism" amount is greater than what i am using now-
the new glasses are 1 year old and that tells me there is improveement.

New Glasses
These are the things that have both made my life better and put me back a few steps while i was getting used to them...
They are special indeed and have some comedy involved.
They are thick (and dirty i notice), but have special attributes.
As a big Star trek fan, i am reminded a bit of Jordy's visor, not in the look, but at some of the special effects that i can now see.
They are without a doubt prisms and now i can tell regulr light from florescent because the prisms seperate the UV portion (there is a purplish halo around flourescent light).
Now there are other strange things, like I see well without them (except everything is doubled) and if i want to i can use them upside down (a very strange look).
So my comedy streak is not here, but maybe there is just a small bit back.

Prisons
I am some what well read, in college i was introduced to the book "Gulag Archipelago" by Alexander Solzhenitsyn. It was an English translation (my Russian at the time was not anywhere good enough to read him in Russian and even less so now). What i remember most (besides the horrific descriptions and that it was very difficult reading) was that although he was imprisoned in the worst prison i could imagine, his mind was free.
So I have found the opposite in my life.
There is darkness and I do not see the stars,
There is the dawn coming, but i only see the night.
In all my life , i have imprisoned my my mind.
And now in my struggle, i see.
That which is creative in me seeks to be free.
Time and time again the doors have swung shut,
Yet even now the jailer and the prisoner seek to become one.
It is when this struggle is over that my physical vision will see as one now.

Sidewalks and attitude.
So I get to go back to the optometrist/head trauma specialist in NY tomorrow.
I am a bit anxious, there is a lot going on with the eyes, but the adventure is not over yet.
I was hoping that it would be over, but i will wait it out.
It is the getting better that is making my life significantly more difficult, but i am not complaining. The vision is getting better.
Walking to and from work gives an interesting perspective on Stamford.
The drivers are rude and unsafe for the most part, but there are gems out there. We need more of those people here.
Stamford is not the most pedestrian friendly city, but then there are times you feel like a prince (as in "Coming to America"). The cherry blossoms fall like a carpet and are beautiful!
The space is wide enough for two or three easily.

Most times it is like this:

Trash cans and light posts make it so you might have single file traffic.
For some one with significant visual problems, the legs for the fence can cause a tripping problem.
The ways are tight and built, not for pedestrian traffic, but so businesses can hawk their space.

Today
We had success at SUNY school of Optometry today, so I have some distance glasses that allow me to see singly. There are issues though, mostly in some ways it is like looking though a fish eye lens, there is some distortion along the edges. This means I have to be really careful climbing stairs. It also means that I need to be careful turning around, it will take a moment for my eyes to adjust. hey told me to take some time to get used to them in a familiar surroundings. I do need a different pair for close work, but things are getting better. They also have scheduled an appointment with their head trauma specialist, mostly to see if there are exercises that I can do to get the eyesight to converge, but that is not until March. I have one more appointment with them in April to see how the double vision has changed, maybe it will be gone by then! I am writing this with the close glasses and my eyes still dilated from the 2 1/2 hours of testing they did again! I think these doctors like me!
