It was a beautiful day for a walk, so i took David with me.
There are so many things to discover, but i had purpose.
I had been looking for a Food Mill for sometime,
ever since my least favorite (because i actually dislike her) Food Network cheif, Anne Burrell,
used it and i was impressed.
The way i shop, is i look things up, find them on line and then go to the store.
I know the online price (which usually includes shipping) and i need to see an item before i buy.
Where ever it is cheaper, i buy and that is what i did today.
Additionally, David needed to just get out.
Additionlly, i get to walk downtown Stamford and pass by restaurants.
If OmNomCT wonders why i do not aften post about restaurants - here it goes:
mary ann's stamford has been cited numerous times for having the windows open with out sliding the screens into place.
The windows were open, with no screens - true Mexican experience, complete with flies!
Then there was Barcelona, which has expensive air blowers to keep the same vermin out of the restaurant and kitchen and they were not on.
It was a beautiful and warm day, so the insects were swarming - it bothers me and now you know wy i do not post about restaurants.

The meaning of Living and life
A light layer of white lays on the ground,
it is not a blizzard
and it is a welcome relief from the terrible cold of the other day,
but i am struggling in my heart
it is not a blizzard
and it is a welcome relief from the terrible cold of the other day,
but i am struggling in my heart
and every thing is "why?".
i do not have answers,
I do not have direction.
I seem to plod along,
wandering in the snow.
Work,
life,
living.
what they are for
and for but a moment,
i do not know.
All things pass
and become the past
as will this
and probably by mid morn i will be fine.
Slip, slosh, slog, slosh. Slip
I make my way slowly today,
Carefully.
I am going too early and too late for a ride.
Past the sacred Heart Church,
Down the steep slope of Smith Street.
I have made it down the slope of Pine.
Streets with no houses, but streets of great importance,
To me.
A great noise - crows
replaced by a louder noise - geese
Cross the new pedestrian way of the Mill River Bridge.
I still ponder what was going through my head earlier,
But am distracted by the mere act of surviving the walk.
Survival is not all what it is about,
But I am not interested
in the yelling and the fighting and
the anger
that seems to be part of what
everyone else calls “surviving”.
I have no interest in that.
No desire for that.
I tend to withdraw now with that,
But do not provoke
the beast, there is still bite left.
Do not corner him, do not push him.
And I still ponder the meaning of this thing called life…
And i still ask, why?
Why am i still here?
This is deep
and i can fall into an abbyss thinking.
I do not need to think,
but to be,
There are answers,
but i do not have to know them,
i just know that there are answers.
It is good enough for me.

A day makes a difference
I went for a walk today and the sleepy Sunday town that was Stamford was not. There was a lot of traffic, a lot of poeple, the little shops on Bedford were open and there was business.
My first stop was looking at the unusual thing they are doing at the Mill River. What a mess! Half way through to what??? Ugh.
Walked further and stopped by Curly's Dinner. It is a hole in the wall, a greasy spoon that serves a true purpose. Their clientele will never be able to go to Napa or Market or Duo. They are not loaded with vermin as the rumors purports. They have fought a successful fight against eminent domain and general harassment from businesses who want them gone. The owners are friendly (and they are Greek as well and women as well) and really do serve a purpose. I know that those in power want the poor and homeless out of Stamford, but while they remain, Curly's will be here.
My walk down Bedford Street found the little farm market (touted as a French market by the powers that be). It was pleasant and not any different than what was at Columbus Park in years past. Fresh produce, baked gods and jellies and a small tea vendor (Ducky Life Tea). All was clean and pleasant and i bought some tea.
A very nice time to be out as it was less humid than the previous 2 days and there was a good breeze.
My only wish is that there would be NO traffic on Bedford (close it! and reroute traffic).

Another Walk about
These beautiful sunny Sundays are bringing the best out in me. I took a walk again to downtown. I keep meeting people I know. A question remains, why do people keep putting money in the meter when parking is free on Sundays and Holidays?
Ran into Rosa again, eating at the newer Peruvian restaurant in town. I said hi, but no more. There is no need. No need to be mean or nasty or ignore her. Just hi and I walked on. There were a few more pepole out, but i was an hour earlier. There were lots of people in the ethnic restaurants (Peruvian and Mexican) not much else. There were people in the park by UConn. There is not much to attract people downtown on a lazy Summer Sunday. Too bad. There was a small parade at the Italian Catholic Chuch by my house earlier, that was mice.
Not art or music during the lazy Sundays. I guess there is no money in it.

A Walk about Stamford
Sunday afternoon about 4 or 5 I took a walk about downtown Stamford. i did it for the exercise, but discovered some unusual things.
The first is on some of the old sidewalks on the inside portion, there is this odd square shaped piece of marble. I have noted 4 of them. One on main near the senior apartments on the South side of the street. the other 3 are going up the hill from Mill River Rd.

The Mill River is looking like a river now, instead of a cesspool. They need to clean the junk next.
I ran into my friend Paula of "Stamford, the place that work?" or "Strictly Stamford", whatever.
I wanted to be her boyfriend, but she just wanted me as a friend, my loss.
Saw the back door of Il' Falco was opened as always, with no screen door. I know the HD has been there, but nothing has been sited so it remains open for any bug to come in.

Downtown Stamford's restaurants seem much busier than in the past, but this is still a very quiet little town.
One last thing, indeed Paula had it right about Uncle Dia's and the up coming precious. My understanding is that they really took the place apart to get rid of "vermin".
When it opens it should be great!

A walk home
One of the fun things that happens when one walks home in Stamford is that you see a lot of things that you normally miss when driving. Of course this is because you are being extra careful when driving cause most drivers are nut cases.
Today i got to see the response to a fire at the old YMCA. It was definitely electrical in nature by the smell and they blacked off Washington Blvd in front of the YMCA so no traffic got through. There were still workers in the building, which was bizarre and there was no smoke only the heavy smell of wires burning.
I was happy to head home and it was good that most of the white stuff was off the sidewalks.

a walk
I said to may self that I might do more than one post today. There were things on my mind, but I got to bring some of those up in other Stamford blogs. However, did take a walk with the new glasses and it was tougher than I thought it would be. There is enough distortion that I still have to use my cane, but I could walk fast. I did get tired out and will take a nap right after this. Sun glasses may help, because inside things seemed to be good and i am actually writing this with the glasses on (not the reading glasses). Anyway, I can see i still have some raod ahead of me.

Relationships
Funny how a day goes. Went for a walk with David to downtown, stopped at the library and ran into an old friend (Okay truth be told she was someone I wanted to have as a girlfriend, but she was not into it). The greeting was very warm and of course, she noticed a lot of things right away, the patch, the cane, that I lost a lot of weight. The first words were, "O my God, what happened to you? Tell me all about it" Then she says, "You look good, younger!" "So talk to me."
With an invite like that, of course I told her about my adventure. I am all about reconciliation, so I can meet some one who I used to have a relationship with and talk with them completely, it was good. I sent an email earlier to the girl I was seeing in August to try to create the same atmosphere. It worked for me, my heart was clear, but she didn't quite understand, she thought I wanted to get back together, which I would not do. Being confused about a persons intent is not something I want in my life.
So the walk was good, I was physically very tired and my eyes and heart could rest peacefully.
